beatlemania
Project for the 2017 International Society of Typographic Designer Awards. The brief asked for a response on the subject of fads and fashions from history, I decided to explore the fad of Beatlemania. I produced a book that explored what the meaning of fans and fandom meant, and why the Beatles were adored so much, particularly by teenage girls. I discovered that the main reason the Beatles stopped performing live was because of the obsessive fans. I was inspired by Swiss design from the same era of Beatlemania and the black and white colour palette which echoes the black and white photos associated with the early days of the band. The book is presented in a sleeve which mimics the style of a vinyl LP. This piece of work was awarded by the ISTD judges and won the University of Portsmouth Art Collection Award and is on display in the university library.
